South Korea: Suicide Actress's Memoirs Claim Sex Exploitation

South Korean netizens are busy discussing deceased actress Ja-Yeon Jang's memoirs, which contain claims that she was a victim of career-related sexual exploitation.
The struggling 26-year-old actress who committed suicide in March 2009, left about 50 letters listing the names of 31 people who she alleged exploited and abused her.
The letters, which amount to several hundred pages, divulge that she had been forced to provide 'sexual services' [direct translation] to powerful figures in order to get acting roles or to merely please powerful individuals within the industry. They unveiled the real names of four corporation executives, two financial industry executives, two newspaper company heads, six entertainment management agency representatives, seven television producers and eight movie directors, and more have also been mentioned.

  • Birthplace: South Korea
  • University: Myongji University
  • Height: 184cm
  • Blood Type:

Biography

Kim Nam-Gil was born on March 13, 1981 in South Korea. His immediate family consists of his parents and one brother. Kim Nam-Gil graduated from Han Yeong High School. He then went to Myeong Ji college (a two year college) and majored in "Theatre and Movies". He eventually dropped out of college and did not complete his studies. Since working in the entertainment world professionally, Nam-Gil has worked under Star J Entertainment Management Company. Nam-Gil's various hobbies include playing the flute, tap dancing, water skiing, and Taekwondo.
Nam-Gil first debuted on television with a minor role in the 1998 KBS drama "School 1" (as the character Min-soo). Five years later, Nam-Gil would win the 31st audition for MBC Television. He then performed in various minor roles for MBC. Meanwhile, in 2005, Kim Nam-Gil changed his name to the seemingly more exotic name of "Lee Han." In 2006, Kim Nam-Gil made the bold decision to accept his first lead role in the controversial, but critically praised independent film, "No Regret". Kim Nam-Gil played the homosexual character Song Jae-min in "No Regret". Although the film "No Regret" received high praise from movie critics & film festivals, it failed to boost Kim Nam-Gil's popularity or lead to immediate stardom. Instead, Kim Nam-Gil took more supporting roles in television dramas and commercial films.
Prior to the release of the 2008 film "Public Enemy Returns," Kim Nam-Gil stopped using his stage name "Lee Han" and reverted back to his birth name. Nam-Gil made this decision after receiving advice from Kang Woo-Suk (the director of "Public Enemy Returns"). Later in 2008, Nam-Gil received his first leading role in a major commercial film - "Portrait of a Beauty." This was also the first time Nam-Gil acted in a historical film. His experience from "Portrait of a Beauty" would reap benefits later when he would act in the historical MBC drama "The Great Queen Seondeok." Although Kim Gyu-Ri garnered most of the attention for "Portrait of a Beauty," Nam-Gil's strong performance did not go unnoticed.
In 2009, Kim Nam-Gil was cast in the MBC drama "The Great Queen Seondeok" as Bi-dam. The production company felt the character of Bi-dam was somewhat the secret weapon in securing the success of the television series. The production company proceeded to promote his character to Korean media outlets and press agencies. The pressure from this move caused Kim Nam-Gil to stress over his upcoming performance. During this time, Nam-Gil researched his character by observing comic book characters like Han Bi Kwang from "Yeol Hyeol Kang Ho", Musashi Miyamoto from "Vegabond" and Kang Baek Ho from "Slam Dunk." His research did prove successful as the drama series "The Great Queen Seondeok" became the most watched drama series of 2009, regularly receiving ratings in excess of 40%. With the runaway success of "The Great Queen Seondeok," Kim Nam-Gil's popularity also skyrocketed. He was frequently voted the sexiest man by Korean women, received many commercial endorsement offers, and flooded with scenarios for various upcoming films and drama series.
Kim Nam-Gil has stated his role model for an actor is Jeong Jae-Yeong, whom Kim Nam-Gil worked with in "Public Enemy Returns" and also graduated from the same high school. His other favorite actor is actress Kim Hye-Su, whom Kim Nam-Gil worked with in "Modern Boy." Kim Hye-Su often gave advice on how to act and think as an actor, while filming "Modern Boy." Kim Nam-Gil has also stated that his ideal woman type is someone like Lee Yo-Won and how she she takes care of her baby.

Notes

  1. Kim Nam-Gil started his mandatory 2 year military service on July 15th, 2010. Because of this, SBS drama "Bad Guy," which stars Kim Nam-Gil, was shortened from 20 episodes to 17 episodes.

BoA is angry with SM Entertainment?

She doesn’t seem to be…..

At the beginning of children’s’ day, BoA must have gotten a little jealous of the younger generation. Instead of rejoicing and praising the kids on May 5th, she lashed out at SME. Well, not exactly “lashed” it was more like tweeted….
“When can I get the verified for my twitter account!! Come on SM entertainment!!”
BoA wants to be the top singer in Asia and Verified on Twitter. Is that really too much to ask? Although, most of us would just like as many followers as she has.

Quantcast

In the wake of the break-up news of super acting couple Hyun Bin and Song Hye-gyo, it was revealed that the actress sent one last message “as his girlfriend” before Hyun Bin entered the Marines on the 7th.
In the message, Song Hye-gyo sent wishes of welfare to the soon-to-be soldier, “Be healthy, and come back safe.”

“City Hunter” reveals still-shots of actress Park Min Young

SBS’s “City Hunter” is starting to kick up the hype for its drama by releasing still-shots of actress Park Min Young on set. The actress plays a former Judo competitor by name of ‘Kim Nana’, who now works as a Korean Secret Service agent.
The pictures were taken on April 13th while she was filming at Seoul’s Kwanghwamun Square. The lovely actress was pictured wearing a bright yellow mini-dress and matching yellow gloves.
The scene was filmed to portray Kim Nana’s financial troubles, since her parents passed away when she was in high school and she now has to work various odd jobs to make her way through college.
The production company stated, “Kim Nana is a lovely person who still has a uplifting personality even in a hard environment. She especially portrays the ‘880,000 won generation’ by working odd jobs before getting to work for the Secret Service.

Lee Min Ho & Park Min Young kiss for an hour and a half for “City Hunter”

A preview for Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young’s epic kiss scene has just been revealed!
On April 19th, the two actors visited a club in Seoul’s Kangnam area to film a kiss scene for SBS’s “City Hunter“. Lee Min Ho was scripted to kiss Park Min Young spontaneously to perform his mission as a ‘city hunter’; Park Min Young happened to be at the club to protect the President’s daughter, ‘Da Hae’, as part of her job as a secret service agent.
In order to successfully pull off the scene, Lee Min Ho had to kiss Park Min Young rather powerfully to give off the feeling that the kiss was unplanned. It was a short kiss, but the couple reportedly filmed for an hour and a half to get the scene just right.
The production team for “City Hunter” stated, “The kiss was an important scene to serve as a turning point for the couple’s relationship. The two showed perfect harmony in a happy environment, so the filming commenced well.”
“City Hunter” is scheduled to air on May 25th, so be sure to check back for updates!

Song is one of the well-known Korean surnames.
Song, using Chinese character is written in two different ways: 宋 and 松.
The rare Song, 松, the origin and its progenitor are unknown. According to the 1975 Census, this Song ranked 248 out of reported 249 surnames in Korea. In 1985, 29 families were reported existing, and it ranked 213 out of the 274 names. 3 Branches from the 松 root are considered major: Kim-Hae 김해(金海), Shin-Pyung 신평(新平), and Yong-Sung 용성(龍城). Hwasun song clan's original surname is Song Ben(松本), later change to surname Song(松). Song Yang(松讓) is korea native people in ad 100~200 age. unknown a Song Yang(松讓)'s offspring
For the other majorly known and generally used Song, 宋, a naturalized-Korean citizen named Song Joo-Eun 송주은(宋柱殷) from China's Tang Dynasty became the progenitor of the people bearing his surname. The reason for Song's naturalization to Korean citizenship is unknown, but he was a highly ranked court official during Korea's Silla Dynasty.

The three direct grandsons (Yoo-Ik 유익(惟翊), Chun-Ik 천익(天翊), and Mun-Ik 문익(文翊))of Song Joo-Eun are considered as the fathers of the three major branches of the Song family, and the three branches (Yeosan 여산(礪山), Eunjin 은진(恩津), and Jincheon 진천(鎭川)) occupy 90% of the Song (宋)name. The remaining branches (Yuhn-An 연안(延安)· Ya-Sung 야성(冶城)· Chung-Ju 청주(淸州)· Nam-Yang 남양(南陽)· Bok-Heung 복흥(福興)) are also believed to have derived from the three major Song branches, therefore, all Songs(宋) are the descendants of Song Joo-Eun, and prohibited from intermarriage by custom.

Jun Hye Bin (or Jeon Hye Bin) is Korean actress and singer. Too bad for her as she is not so popular like another Korean Actress although she is quite beautiful and talented enough.
As a singer, her hits single “2AM” was frequently performed. Her new Korean drama can be watched on The Man Who Can’t Get Married, and Yaksha.
Some fans may criticized Jun Hye Bin for her sexy outfits while performing and dancing. Jun always came under heavy criticism for being overtly sexual in performances, and moved onto a second single “Bin-Go”, which showed a cuter, less sexual image.

Gianna Jun won’t be running away with Rain.

But Lee Na-Young might.
Dramabeans 6/4/2010 — As soon as Rain confirmed his drama comeback in Runaway (the next project from Chuno’s writer-director team), speculation arose about who would be cast as his leading lady, and Jeon Ji-hyun’s name rose to the top of lists as a likely prospect. However, a source with her management company, Sidus HQ, has now stated that Jeon has declined the offer.
Now Lee Na-young’s name is being discussed as a top possibility, which was confirmed by her management, BOF, who stated on June 3 that although no decision has been made, they are looking favorably at the prospect….
